Abstract: Heterogeneous environmental regulation serves as a crucial policy tool to drive the harmonious development of water resources and socio - economic dynamics for high -quality growth. This study utilizes panel data from 11 provinces (cities) in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2010 to 2021 . Based on the PSR model ,we constructed an evaluation indicator system for " water resources - social economy " interactions. Employing a dynamic spatial Durbin model , we empirically examined the spatial spillover effects of heterogeneous environmental regulation on the coordination level of the " water resources - social economy " interactions. The results indicated that:① Different types of environmental regulations showed significant heterogeneity in their influence on the coordinated development of " water resources - social economy " interactions. command - and - control environmental regulation showed an inverted " U-shaped " impact ,while market - based regulation displayed a " U-shaped " trend. ② Environmental regulations mainly exerted a spatial spillover effect on the coordinated development of neighboring areas through imitation ,warnings ,and pollution havens. Under the constraints of regional and industrial structural differences ,they exhibited significant and diverse heterogeneous effects. Therefore ,harnessing the positive implementation effects of various environmental regulations and continuously deepening their empowering effects on the coordinated development of " water resources - social economy " interactions are essential for achieving sustainable development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
