Abstract: In view of the differences in application process, application depth, application standards and application scope of BIM technology in the globalization promotion in the past decade, this paper systematically reviewed the international research of BIM technology in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Norway, Singapore, Japan and other countries.Combined with the characteristics of municipal engineering industry in China, the application status of BIM technology in municipal engineering design industry in China was analyzed, and the key problems encountered in its development were pointed out.Analysis pointed out that the reasons why the BIM′s development in municipal industry in China was not as expected mainly focus on two aspects: benefit problem and technical problem.The benefit problem is mainly manifested in the inconsistency or even complete dislocation of the input subject and the benefit subject of BIM technology, while the technical problem is the biggest obstacle to the implementation of BIM technology in municipal industry.On this basis, this paper summarized and put forward the development prospect, technical route and three key problems to be solved in the application of municipal BIM technology in China.The related research results can provide practical technical route and practical path for promoting the application of BIM technology in municipal engineering design industry in China.
