Abstract: To analyze the surplus and deficit of water resources ecological footprint and their sustainable utilization in the Minjiang and Tuojiang River basin, the ecological footprint and carrying capacity of water resources in major cities in the Minjiang and Tuojiang River Basin from 2010 to 2020 were calculated based on the method of the ecological footprint of water resources. Moreover, the sustainability status of water resources in the Minjiang and Tuojiang River Basin was evaluated in an all-round manner with 4 indicators, including ecological surplus/deficit of water resources, ecological footprint of water resources per 10000 Yuan GDP,ecological pressure index of water resources and coordination degree between ecology and economics of water resources.According to the results: except Luzhou City, the rest of the areas showed an overall decreasing trend in the ecological footprint of per capita water resources;(2) the per capita carrying capacity of water resources from high to low was in an order of Ya'an City > Leshan City > Meishan City > Yibin City > Luzhou City > Deyang City > Chengdu City > Ziyang City > Neijiang City=Zigong City;(3) in 2010~2020,the supply and demand of water resources in Minjiang and Tuojiang River Basin were in a transformation of “surplus-deficit-surplus”;(4) cities in this basin showed a gradual increase in water utilization efficiency, the ecological and economic coordination of water resources remained stable and within a sustainable range, however, the ecological pressure of water resources was rather high in 2014~2017.The research results provide theoretical support for the integrated management and sustainable use of water resources in the Minjiang and Tuojiang River Basin.
