Abstract: The development of the pumped storage industry is closely related to the electricity price mechanism. This paper briefly reviews the main policies of China's pumped storage price mechanism, summarizes and proposes three main stages of the evolution of China's pumped storage price mechanism, and analyzes the main characteristics of the price mechanism in each stage and its impact on the industry development. Drawing on the experience of foreign pumped storage power stations participating in the power market, combined with the current situation and trends of power market development, this paper designs and proposes the pumped storage price mechanisms for the initial, transitional, and mature stages of power market development. Through specific examples, it compares and analyzes the revenue composition and challenges faced by pumped storage power stations at different stages. Finally, it looks ahead to the future development direction of China's pumped storage industry, suggesting that pilot projects be promoted to gradually enable pumped storage power stations to enter the spot market and the ancillary service market, so as to achieve stable, orderly, and sustainable development of the industry.
