Abstract: To maintain regional ecological functions and protect water ecological environment, ecological compensation measures have been adopted in Changshu City. This paper introduces the specific schemes, implementation processes and achievements of ecological compensation in the city, and compares the water quality of water function area before and after ecological compensation. The results show that the ecological compensation of Changshu is beneficial for improving the local water quality, however, there are still some problems to be solved, such as the excessive use of current ecological compensation funds in paddy field cultivation, nearly becoming a type of farm subsidy. As a result, the ecological compensation funds for rivers are insufficient, and water quality improvement task is still arduous. This paper proposes to enhance the ecological compensation for water sources and rivers, broaden the sources of compensation funds and study the scientific ecological compensation standards, so as to enhance the implementation effect of local water ecological compensation.
