Abstract:

Secretary-General Xi Jinping has made important speeches on construction of Yangtze River Economic Belt, which stresses that restoring the ecological environment of Yangtze River will be an overwhelming task and no large-scale development will be allowed along the river at present and for a rather long period to come. This has set high requirements for the protection of water resources of Yangtze River Basin and also offered opportunities for development. Under the new situation, we should coordinate the relationship between protection and development to give full play to the realization of its ecological, economical and social benefits and improve the sustainable development of the economy and society, so as to create evergreen Yangtze River. It concerns the economical and social development of whole country. Based on the analysis of the challenges and opportunities of water resources protection of Yangtze River, the ideas and measures for the water resources protection under new situation is put forward through analysis of the existing problems.
