Abstract: Since water transfer to the North of China, the Middle Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project has brought great social, economic and ecological benefits to the various areas along the route. The dependence of water by users along the route has gradually deepened. Therefore, water supply guarantee rate is very important. However, channel sewage has an adverse effect on water quality and water supply guarantee rate, so research on the characteristics and quantity of sewage is necessary. Based on the investigation and theoretical analysis of the Middle Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the characteristics and quantity of the channel sewage were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed. The quantity variation curves of branches and leaves, industrial, agricultural and domestic sewage, alga sewage with time were calculated by mathematical statistics method, and inducing sewage quantity of each diversion outlet was 25 200 kg. Finally, according to the sewage quantity and the specific working condition, the sewage clearing index of the channel cleaning equipment was proposed as 1100 kg/h, then the index applicability was verified. The result can provide a basis for the selection of the cleaning equipment.
