Abstract: An analysis was conducted regarding Ecuador's total amount of hydroelectric resources, its distributions and major problems occurred during development. According to the prediction of domestic power demand and power source development plan, and taking into consideration of Ecuador's geographic location and Andean community's strategy for building an electric power network, the potential domestic and international markets were discussed. Based on the achievements made from existing hydropower stations, researches were conducted on key hydropower projects that are of high developing value; meanwhile, considering the power markets in different planning level year, geographic locations of hydropower projects and depth of preliminary work, tentative idea of developing superiority was put forward accordingly.
