Abstract: The comprehensive basin plan for Ecuador consists of 4 main systems of flood control, water resources comprehensive utilization, water resources protection and water conservancy management. Water ecology protection is an important part for preventing and alleviating ecological impact caused by water resources utilization, which should be considered throughout the whole planning. We summarize the characteristics of aquatic resources, ecological sensitive zone involving water and ecological environment and analyze the existed problems in water ecology of Ecuador. According to the river systematic characteristics and aquatic organism distribution of Ecuador, and in the combination of the basin plan, the protection thought train of water ecology protection that fully considers the social and economic development level is put forward.
